From 2013-2021, Ted was the Executive Director of the Veterans Center at The American College of Financial Services, focusing on empowering active duty, veterans, and their spouses with a second career in the financial services profession. In this capacity he awarded over 1,000 scholarships, valued at over $5M funded through philanthropic support from hundreds of organizations and individuals. He created and hosted an annual gala where he presented the College’s annual Solider Citizen Award to some of our nation’s most respected military leaders.
The response to our efforts for the academic institution, the alumni, the supporting business and stakeholders, and of course the benefiting of veterans has been incredibly positive. With supporters from Penn Mutual Insurance, New York Life, Prudential, USAA, and over 50 others, we were able to award over 1,000 scholarships. Further, we were able to honor such veteran dignitaries as General David Petraeus, General Jack Keane, Admiral Tom Fargo, General Peter Pace, Admiral Joe Prueher, General Joe Robles, and General Ed Eberhart.
His focus is on empowering the latent talent of individuals by weaving into their lives time tested experience. He is a firm believer in the beneficial synergies from sharing the leadership principles developed from the military experience and within the financial services profession with high potential individuals and value seeking organizations.
He was also an Adjunct Professor of Management and Leadership, teaching the popular Decision Making Leadership Skills course in the Masters of Science in Management curriculum.
Ted gained extensive experience over the course of a 27-year active duty military career in strategic planning, customer service, logistics, and program management. His assignments included tours all over the U.S. as well as in Asia-Pacific and Europe. As a career Navy Supply Corps officer, he served both in surface ships and submarines and was designated a Joint Qualified Officer, retiring as a Navy Captain.
He has been quoted in the New York Times, MOAA magazine, WalletHub, and is a regular guest on the Ask the Expert radio show in Hampton Roads. He has published articles in Insurance NewsNet magazine, The Oakleaf newsletter, The Standard newsletter, and Connections magazine. He is a long-time volunteer for Junior Achievement, teaching and mentoring local high school students in financial management.
